Choose The Right Wetsuits!

Do not be vain and pour your money down the drain!

Scuba diving is a sport that is enjoyed by hundreds and cherished by thousands all over the world. Those who opt to indulge in this sport are individuals with ages poles apart regardless of the gender. Fifteen year olds find it engaging and enlightening, while sixty year olds find it reviving and challenging. Needless to say, scuba diving is a sport as unique as its gear and performers.

Wet suits are as critical to scuba diving as gills are to fish. Wet suits are called so as they are intended to keep you warm but you will get wet no matter what. This is because they tend to lock water in amid the skin and the suit.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING A WETSUIT:

There are numerous factors that should be taken into account before you purchase a wet suit. These include:

o   Fitness:

Fitness is paramount when wetsuits are in question because it is fitness that will contribute a great deal to your comfort underwater. Make sure the suit is snug and there are no gaps in the arm pits. More over, the suit should smugly fit your crotch, ankles and wrists otherwise there is always the possibility of water getting in. If it zips too easily, try a smaller size. If you can not find one that fits you perfectly, you can always resort to alteration.

o   Thickness:

The next factor that should be considered is the thickness of the suit. If you have an average dive where the temperature will go no lower than 80 degrees, a 2 mm suit will do for you. If you have planned diving deeper where the temperatures will be 60 degrees or below, you have to purchase one with a thickness of 6-7 mm. On the contrary, it banks a lot on your own body characteristics.

o   Styles:

Wetsuits come in a variety of styles. They may have long legs or sleeves or short ones. The style is determined by the type of insulation you want (gas blown, skin or titanium) and the water temperature.  Short sleeved farmer johns are recommended for cold waters.

o   Price:

The type of insulation determines the price of the suit. If you buy a titanium suit that either has an internal titanium coating or has assembled titanium thread to weave the stuff together, it will be quite expensive. This is because titanium suits are claimed to keep you warmer for longer intervals. The counterparts are cheap but will wear out quickly.

Bottom-line: Take all the time in the world to select your wetsuits as they are stars when it comes to scuba diving!
